I've seen quite a lot of photos of this enclosure (because the silverback is Nasibu- very interesting genetically:D) but this gives a better view of the whole area. I hadn't realised there are some planted/protected trees in it, which is good. It looks pretty spacious.

Am I right in thinking it is old indoor quarters for both Orangs and Gorillas(and Chimps?) coupled with these modern outdoors?

Are the indoor houses for the three Great Apes seperate, or all one building?

They're all one building - as you enter from the end near the lions it's chimps on the right, then orangs and gibbons on the left, then gorillas and colobus on the right.

EDIT: Just noticed the glass wall cutting across this photo - sorry about that, hadn't registered it before! Could probably have excluded that if I'd spotted it while I was there.

What does the glass wall divide the enclosure from?

It's just part of the structure of the viewing platform, as I recall. There was a low wall and the glass was beyond that.

What a big step forward if you compare it with the old, awfull Gorilla enclosure, that was running til a few years ago.

I didn't understand what you meant from this, but have now seen another photo(not a Zoochat one) from a different angle which shows the viewing balcony in the rock wall with the glass wall at the front of it, so now I know where you were standing when you took this shot.;)

Lisbon have certainly done a good job of upgrading all their Great Ape facilities. The Sumatran Orangutans are breeding and hopefully similar success will be repeated with the Gorillas as well.
