I liked Lagos Zoo; it is a very pleasant little zoo with beautiful gardens. Being a small zoo space is tight so it has sensibly concentrated on smaller animals. Perhaps predictably, I thought the area taken up by the farmyard should have been given over to non-domestics, however it was interesting to see the local sheep breed.
I didn’t get the chance to visit any other zoos as it was more of a holiday than a zoo trip and my wife is only so tolerant
I understand there was another zoo in the Algarve that was owned by a British couple. It had pygmy hippos and sifaka. The zoo didn’t last long and I wonder if Lagos got their hippos from that zoo? I also wonder where the sifaka went?
It was called Omega Parque, and it was only focused in endangered animals, many were rare or very rare in zoos. They didn´t get many visitors, and most were on loan from other zoos. I do believe the pair of pigmy hippos went to Lagos, and the sifakas returned to Vincennes.
