@EM, yes ... the current exhibit for the Himalayan brown in Ohrada ist so much the better ... (sadly)!

BTW: do they still hold Himalayan browns?

Why do (some) zoos in Russian Republic not improve their basic exhibitry??? Space should not be an issue here (nor resources)?

Yes, 1.1 (the bear in Ohrada is their offspring rehomed from previous owners)

Current exhibits are built in 1999, taking place of 60-year-old cages.
Those concrete strongholds cannot be renovated without moving all of the animals to avoid excess stress from noise (not only the bears, but also nearby tigers!), and the demolishing of concrete is already expensive, not speaking about rebuilding itself...
The most important thing: there is NO space to expand. Really.
The zoo itself resides on originally temporary territory, with several failed moving plans.
A new zoo is rumored to be built by Ekaterinburg's 300th anniversary (in 2023), but I'm not optimistic about this :( After all, there are pending plans for new zoos in St.Petersburg & Perm, resulted in nothing.
Russians don't appreciate zoos - they're happy to gawk at cages.
