The vaulted roofs of the buildings in this picture (including the very odd ibex exhibit) remind me of the San Francisco zoo's Primate Discovery Center, built in the 1980s and instantly out of date. These pictures are great, even if the Leningrad zoo clearly needs some work!
@woolyrat: I'd like to repeat the opinions of others by thanking you for posting all of the great photos of Leningrad Zoo. The place appears to be all iron bars and brutally small cages, but I definitely had no plans to visit Russia anytime soon and therefore I appreciate all of your photos.
snowleopard: I prefer to visit zoos in Europe then mostly in Russia, but I have to no about our zoos conditions and I think that people interested in zoos have a right to no and to see the same. Therefore I'd like to put pictures from other Russian and maybe post-Soviet zoos to the Gallery of this site. Thank you!
