This looks a bit like a row of carnivore dens that were at London in the 19th century. Has the increased prosperity (for some at least!) in Russia fed through to Leningrad Zoo to either modernise the site or relocate it, as I believe it's pretty small?
If you zoom in you can see a lynx resting on a wooden platform in the first cage, but sadly the cat lacks the mini-basketball that is found on the floor of the next enclosure. Are there no animal rights activisits (or any sympathetic citizens) to complain about the atrocious exhibits?
