Snowleopard: yes, almost This cages were built in the end of XIX century, than, in the beginning of 1930-th they were burned down, and re-builded in old aspect. The zoo-management going to crash down this ugly house and to build one or two more modern bear-enclosures, but I think, it could be not bad to save the house like historical zoo-sight - without bears, of course, and maybe with cafe inside and tables in cages
I assume this is the male being kept from the female?
How can they think that keeping a bear in a cage that small is even in the remotest acceptable?! He'd be better of on the concrete shelf in the other picture, poor thing
ashley-h,
here is a young male, isolated from his mother. But the age of animal make no matter. To my opinion, it's a crime to keep any bear in such conditions, not only polar bear.
wow, but polar bear looks really white and healthy in this pic, not like those white+yellow+green fur bears in "naturalistic" exibits with Water :O Only one good thing is that this bear saw more snow in Leningrad then all snow bears in United Kingdom together.
