The bear shown here is a male named Yoshi.
He was born in the wild in 2002 and later kept in circus, transferred to St.Petersburg zoo in 2005 due to aggression.
Of course he became agressive - circus is not for bears! There are some polar bears still living in Russian circuses and even in travelling menageries (those are circus by-product)
Yoshi was later transferred to Rostov zoo in December 2010 and lived for several months in cramped cage (where previous polar bear lived for all its life), waiting for new exhibit to be finished. He ultimately got a spacious concrete pit.
