Really I do not know. I visited Bojnice Zoo only once and it was in September 2005. The photo was taken just few minutes or so after the noon. As you can see on the other photos the weather was perfect, warm and sunny. As far as I can remember the elephants got some food (the hay?). But all in all I have not seen them outside. I can only guess that they are chained for every night - but how long they are staying inside (being chained??) during Winter - I do not know.
They live in the same house as in this picture. But at least, due to some modifications inside (added ropes), they are not on chains during nights anymore, since few years ago.
