I suspect this aviary, and those for the golden lion tamarins also photographed by astrobird, were where the childrens zoo now is. But I'm not sure, and would like to know exactly where they were, and how many were there.

So Google maps hasn't been updated in a while which is handy. I've dropped a pin to show you where this exhibit was. In the photo you can see the old tree kangaroo exhibit (round exhibit to the right of the centre) pretty clearly and Keeper Kids and the carousel haven't changed.
in reply to the earlier question, these photos are older...could have been as far back as 2011 (time really does go fast!) and I believe this area is now being redeveloped. The avairy for the Red fronted macaws was near the old baboon cages, tree kangaroo and the old elephant and little penguin enclosures. The avairys seemed to have something different in them each time I visited.
Presumably off-show, along with quite a lot of other interesting species. The zoo has I think ~10 species of South American parrots, but only three are on display, plus a couple of tamarin species, tree kangaroos, and a few other things. They must have a bit of off-display room, because apparently they have three cassowaries, but only one is on display.
I didn't realise they are so rare - in fact I presumed they were quite common, as there is even one (at least) in New Zealand! Wellington Zoo has had a male for a number of years, it shares an enclosure currently with pygmy marmosets, emperor tamarin, agouti and sun conures. There doesn't appear to be a photo of it in the gallery however.
