In the Netherlands we have quite a number of introduced crayfish-species but this ( beautifull ) one is not among them. Do you know if it is sofar only found in Spain or has it also found in other ( European ) countries ?
Do you know something about the natural distribution of it, I'm going to Mexico next month and would like to make some photos of it in it's natural habitat, in other words is it found also in Yucatan ?

In Spain we also have introduced crayfishes (Procambarus clarkii, Pacifastacus leniusculus..), fortunately this small species never arrived at the wild habitats (yet).

Of course it must be found for sale in many more European countries than Spain!

About the natural distribution. As it's name suggest is endemic to the lake Patzcuaro, that is in Michoacan. It's a mountain volcanic lake. Take in account that the wild individuals lack the reddish color of the selected breed "Orange" shown in the photo.

Good luck with finding this species and many more in your trip!

I mixes up 2 Galleries ( Spain wildlife and Spain others ) so I was thinking this was a wild animal. Now I understand you took the photo in a captive enviorment :) !
We ( my wife and I ) only will travel around in Yucatan so no Lake Patzcuaro and no Mexican Dwarf Crayfish this time for us....... ( maybe another time ).
