I've heard that the Growing Wild zone is a beautiful addition to the zoo (it opened in late 2012) but that there are very few species on display in the area. Meerkats, giant tortoises and what else? Are there quokkas in this part of the zoo?
Here are some more great photos of the Growing Wild precinct:

That is a right assumption, there are not many types of animals in this area, but I was impressed with the way they had done the area. There are 3 enclosures for meerkat (which could be considered an overkill as there is also another group of them else where in the zoo) there is also the brush turkey aviary (which needs something else in it also, I think there is only 1 male bird in there, not a pair) and there is also an interactive "house" which has various reptiles (spikey dragons and star tortoise and maybe a skink......... from memory) as well as beetles. There is also a garden for blind people (if I read the sign right) which I believe is still being developed. I didn't spend as much time exploring the Quokka area as I would have liked, but I only saw 1 Quokka in the large area, I'm sure there would have been more. My only criticism is the 1 entrance/exit to the area, meaning you have to back track and fight the crowds coming in.
