Bird Refuge - Second Savanna at Bioparc Valencia, 28/05/11

A raised area accessible to the smaller birds but not the ostriches or ungulates. The marabous seemed to be king of the hill, and were sat there all day.

This is basically the Savannah of Grumpy Things - Southern White Rhinos, Grant's Zebras, Common Eland and Ostrich being the headliners.

The more peaceful smaller antelopes and giraffes have a larger, grassy savannah paddock.

What are the other bird species in the enclosure? Marabou's and ..

Grey crowed crane, saddle-billed stork, sacred ibis, Knob-billed Duck, Fulvous whistling duck, White-faced Whistling Duck (sometimes in Madagascar area), in the streams Yellow-billed Duck, Red-crested Pochard and (sometimes)blue winged geese.

An exhibit every zoo should have.

:D

It just made me smile how there was a nice grassy savannah paddock for giraffes and antelope and then a sandy savannah with ostriches, zebras, rhinos - all the grumpy things!
