How many brazilian tapirs are there in Australia and are there any hopes for breeding?

Adelaide Zoo - 0.2
Mother and daughter
Mogo Zoo - 1.1
Mother and son
Western Plains Zoo - 2.1
Mother and son and another male
Taronga Zoo - 0.1

No breeding can occur within the current population without reaching high levels of inbreeding. Importation is needed very soon but i'm unaware of any plans.

:)

I hope an import does occur because they are the only tapirs we have left seeing as what happens with malayans over here. :(

mogo got melbournes tapir - which they sent there in favour of malayan a tapir which that promptly went blind was taken off display and never received a mate.

i'm pretty sure that there was only ever 3 however. a pair and their male offspring. off my head they have a mother/son now.

i have absolutely zero knowledge why there is no progress on the tapir frontier. but i'm going to guess that there is no IRA currently approved for them.
