Unlike the other four cities we visited on this trip (Lisbon, Valencia, Barcelona), Madrid has no standalone aquarium, so this is the major aquatic collection in the city. And despite the relatively modest building, it's a diverse collection - many species of shark (including Sand Tigers, Sandbars, Bonnetheads and Coral Catshark), two species of sea turtle (Green and Loggerhead), jellyfish, Nautilus, mantis shrimps, and a good range of mostly tropical marine bony fish.

Is there a separate admission charge to go into the aquarium?

No, it's just part of the zoo. One of the better zoo-based aquariums I've seen - greatly helped by the presence of those large sharks, sea turtles and Nautilus - it's stocked (as at Arnhem or Rotterdam) as if it were a standalone aquarium.
