Petrogale xanthopus xanthopus

Still very rare in Europe, and a real treat for me. I hadn't seen any Petrogale since the Brush-taileds went from British zoos.

I know how you must have felt, Maguari. I just saw my first yellow-footed rock wallaby in Tierpark Berlin early in May. I had to sit perfectly still in a very crouched position for 15 minutes but I got some brilliant photographs of it. 30 minutes well spent ;)

I'm not sure of the numbers but there are small groups at just three zoos - Madrid, Tierpark Berlin and Besancon. All the founders were imported from the US in the last few years.

They're beautiful animals. And all being well I've got Berlin's to see later in the year as well - Year of the Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby! :D

Even in Australia I get excited about these little creatures. When I went to Adelaide Zoo a week ago I was pleased to see about 15 in one exhibit mixed with red kangaroos.
