Dolphin Show at Barcelona, 30/05/11

Dolphin show number four for the trip! I've seen this one before, not at all bad but let down compared to the others we saw that week (Lisbon, Madrid, Valencia) by the smaller facilities and presence of only two animals. Although also quite possibly a little dolphin show fatigue on our part!

I also think it's a great shame that there are no longer dolphins on exhibit in Aqua-rama - the pool there isn't ideal for the sea lions as there is no proper land area (I did notice the large raft floating there!) and it means you now can't see Barcelona's dolphins without going to the show. I guess if the plans for the separate marine zoo come off then this will be fixed but who knows when (or if!) that will happen.

Alternate shows are narrated in Catalan and Castillian - we had the latter, but my grasp of neither is strong enough to explain what the trainer's trying to demonstrate here...

I don't go to the dolphin shows because I don't want to do the queue (there's queue 1h before teh show starts) and I always went to the Aquarama to see them underwater, but as you can see, there are sealions...

For what I know, the Marine Zoo is not a priority for the Mayor and the project is stopped (this was announced about two months after the announcement of the materplan and the "definitive" construction of the marine zoo).

I think that the trainer is explaining how they do medic observations, like a ultrasonography.

We turned up a few minutes before the show, but after the queue had been let in. As it was a weekday we got away with it - I think if you tried the same trick at the weekend you'd risk finding no seats left.

A shame if so but not surprising in the current climate.

Ah, that would make sense! :D
