Always such a joy to watch pictures of the elephant herd on the 23 000 m2 savanna at Borås Zoo. Note that they share it with a number of species - giraffes, zebras, antelopes etc - and that this concept has worked well for some 40 years now!
I believe that you will find Sweden not only being a great country for zoos, but also that you - coming from the UK - will be met with a lot of hospitality. Most of us in Sweden are anglophiles and regard any visit from you Britons as very welcome, indeed!

You can speak english in any Scandinavian country and get by just fine. Many people in both Denmark, Norway and Sweden speak better english than Brits and Americans (you butcher your own language). Two handy tips for an American visiting Scandinavia:
1: Always approach people with: "Excuse me, do you speak english?" instead of asuming that we do so. It is just more polite.
2: Just say that you are Canadian! You will generally be met with more "goodwill"
