Kolmården Wildlife Park - Zoo Savannah

This is one of Kolmårdens two Savanas. This one is located in the zoo and you can almost walk around the whole enclousure. Rhinos, Zebras, Waterbucks, Antelopes, Addax, Eland, Wildbeest. In the beggining also Giraffe, Elephant , Cows, Pelicans and more.

Is this a Blesbuck to the left?

I think it´s called Bontebok in english. (Damaliscus pygargus)

Very nice. Too bad the elephants and giraffes are gone.

There were no Bonteboks left in Europe last time I knew - this would thus be Blesbok.

There are some in Spain, but not in Sweden. So I think it's a blesbok.

Yes, your right. But isn´t Blesbuck a subscpecies to the Bontebok?

I thought that there are some bontebok in breeding centres. I don't know how many and exactly where. There should be at least one at Tebernas. There are probably also some in private collections, but that is just speculation. I hope they will return in some European zoos. But I think they won't because we already have the blesboks...

@ Kwambeze I don't know if the blesbok is a subspiecies of the bontebok. But they are really close related.

As far as I have understood (and have checked at Zootierliste.de) they are indeed related subspecies:

Bleskok (Damaliscus pygargus phillipsi)

are commonly found in zoos throughout Europe while

Bontebok (Damaliscus pygargus pygargus)

can only be seen in one zoo in Spain (Oasys) where they only have one individual.
