Woodpecker aviary

One of the public aviarys for white-backed woodpeckers (Dendrocopus leucotos). Nordens Ark has the only ISIS-registrated white-backed woodpeckers in the world. Most of them in a off-show breeding facility but a few pairs in a couple of aviaries around the park. I believe this one is the biggest. During my visit I could count to at least three woodpeckers in here and when I studied the photo yesterday I found two of them, do you?

I wish more zoos would keep and breed woodpeckers. Definatly underrepresented in captivity.

Definitely, underrated and underrepresented in zoos.
Which holds true for quite a few native songbird species ... alas!
