Thank goodness this atrocity has finally ended! I was in Switzerland in October of 2003 and I visited Geneva and Zurich during my stay but deliberately avoided Bern. There was a lot of debate about the awful bear pits at that time, and a big push to either demolish them or move the bears into more modern surroundings.
