A disappointment by the looks of it?! No room for the fast cats to run?!

Thanks for the explanation, Maguari. But I am still not conviced about the merits of this enclosure. Add a few more climbing trees and I think it might have made an OK leopard enclosure - but cheethas? No way!

On the other hand - the landscaping efforts (and costs!) put into this exhibit is almost of "American proportions"! That is interesting; you don´t get to see much of that in Europe.

Anyway: very good and highly informative pictures from Basel Zoo, Maguari. Great job!

My pleasure! :)

Dan, I'm not being rude but there aren't that many zoos that actually allow cheetahs to run anywhere near their full speed.

And that is really a shame since it is a magnificent sight! You should visit Ree Park - Ebeltoft Safari if you want to see cheetahs sprint in a huge enclosure. Unfortunately, no city zoo can spare the amount of land that would be needed for that...

Blackduiker

For this species, almost a case where an exhibit is too lush with foliage. For Cheetahs, I would lose the rockwork, some of the overly lush vegetation, and concentrate on tall grass, a few fallen trees, and maybe one large Acacia for shade.
