This has probably been discussed elsewhere, but would it have been more feasible to send the elephants off elsewhere temporarily, demolish their old accomodation and build from scratch, rather than building a new exhibit around them? What are the plans for this current house?
The current stables are located just right from the line of trees that goes down from the middle of the new indoor housing, so it would be hard not to demolish this barn to create the new outdoor enclosure....
If my childhood memories don't get me wrong, I have seen 4 African and 1 (or even 2) Asian Elephants at the same time in this building (late 70ies/beginning of the 80ies). Hard to believe nowadays...
Even two adult bulls-but nowadays, not everything must be better than in former times.Many zoo-animals would agree, if they could talk....ask the hippos at Wroclaw, for example.
