yes it's a fairly young animal, only thirteen years old. Its not a great photo because I didn't use a flash so its a bit blurry

The Wikipedia article on tuataras suggest that captive tuataras might live to be 200 years old. Does this seem remotely possible? Given the source of the information, I'm guessing probably not.
 
the oldest known tuatara is (from memory) somewhere around 150. His name is Henry and he lives at the tuatarium in the Southland Museum in Invercargill (in the far south of NZ). His age is a complete guess because he was obtained as an adult in 1971. But he is largely the reason you get claims that tuatara can live to [insert extreme age here] in captivity. Nobody really knows how old tuatara can live to, but certainly 100 is not unlikely, 150 sure...200 *maybe*!
