Condors of the Columbia

Editorial note, the finishes in this exhibit puzzle me. No effort has been made to minimize the impact of the condor holding building, in fact it is almost celebrated as the focal point of the exhibit. Also, the water feature has what appears to be similar to a backyard swimming pool texture and I have to wonder if this was an aesthetic choice or a husbandry lead one. It seems an odd choice either way.

Thanks for the pictures of the California Condor Aviary! If the zoo didn't want to cover the holding building with mock-rock or foliage, they could have painted it a browner color so the building would not be as bright and as stated, the focal point. Overall the exhibit looks to be more lush than the other California Condor exhibits in Southern California (ie. San Diego Zoo). How does this one compare?

I have seen four of the five California Condor exhibits in the US (the one I haven't seen is Santa Barbara) and this one compares reasonably well as far as the needs of the birds are concerned, but from a visitor experience/education standpoint, this one falls flat. Perhaps on par with San Diego which suffers from some similar issues in the details.
