This individual was reaching over hotwires to reach some plants to browse on.

A good example of a gorilla ignoring hotwire to interact with the vegetation. For all you Howletts fans out there, the green stuff on the ground is called grass.:) (Excuse the silly joke)

What is the purpose of the hotwire then? If it's not protecting the vegetation why is it there?

Perhaps the hotwire is to protect the roots of certain trees and shrubs, so that the tops can be taken off and eaten by the gorillas but then the plant will continue to thrive.

In this case the hot wire is protecting the bamboo planting while allowing the gorillas to browse from it. They may have some but they may not take all.

What great enrichment!
