Conservation Aviary - Edwards's Pheasant/Violaceous Turaco Exhibit

June 8th, 2014.
In this photo it is possible to see both male and female Edwards's Pheasants as they were both extremely active in their exhibit. A birth occurred just a couple of weeks ago and there are now no more than 15 of the birds in all of the AZA zoos in North America. This species has not been sighted in the wild since 2000 and it is regarded as being extinct in its natural habitat.

I think they are not uncommon in private aviculture in America though so there only being 15 in AZA zoos is pretty irrelevant. The whole captive stock worldwide is incredibly inbred anyway.
