Conservation Centre - Primates, Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians + Fish

July 17th, 2010.
what are all the primates in this exhibit?

This building is a horrible mish-mash of all sorts of creatures, and there were diana monkeys, white-faced saki monkeys, golden-headed lion tamarins (also found in the excellent Tropical American Rainforest building) and at least 1-2 more species of primates. None of the monkeys had access to an outdoor exhibit.

The other primate species present in this building are lesser spot-nosed guenons and black & white ruffed lemurs (there is also a large colony of this lemur species in an outdoor grotto area nearby). This is the oldest building at the Tulsa Zoo and does reflect its age in its overall design. The west end of the building is all glass fronted bird exhibits. The east end is reptile exhibits on one side, and small primates on the other. I was there yesterday and the building is currently undergoing some cosmetic renovations. One correction to snowleopard's post is that ALL of the primates in this building do have access to outdoor exhibits and most of the time can freely move between the indoor and outdoor portions of their exhibits. The Diana guenon outdoor habitat is in fact relatively spacious. To view the outdoor habitats you have to leave the building and walk around the side that faces the excellent African black-footed penguin exhibit.

@keith8404: I appreciate your informative comments on several of the Tulsa Zoo photos, and that is great news that the primates in the Conservation Centre do indeed have access to outdoor exhibits. Hopefully the zoo decides to concentrate on a specific set of creatures for what I personally think is an outdated building, but money must be tight in Tulsa these days as the zoo has barely changed in years.
