Oh how we loved Conservation Golf (we didn't). Many hours (not one moment) spent putting a ball around, when majestic creatures could be viewed all around. Oh, how we laughed (at what a waste of space it was), and how we missed the old cat house (husbandry not withstanding).
So it's with a heavy heart we wave goodbye... and hope that one day the land will be returned to an animal enclosure... filled with flying pigs.
Wish it was going to be a new animal enclosure. Sadly the site's earmarked for a children's 'high rope' playground.
Mr Mottershead prided himself on the fact that his zoo was 'a zoo' unlike so many of the fairground, hurdy-gurdy, amusement parks of the time. It's not that long ago that staff at Chester Zoo frowned and tutted at the likes of Chessington and Flamingo land as their amusements detracted from their core function. Sad.
