These doors used to give access to the viewing area for the indoor exhibit, located to the left in this view. The exisiting bonobo building has been gutted and is being remodeled and renovated. The bonobos are currently housed behind the scenes elsewhere at Planckendael.

Next to the existing bonobo building being remodeled and renovated, a very large structure is being newly constructed. A sign with the design of the project (see elsewhere in this gallery) indicates that the indoor space for the bonobos will increase five-fold and that Planckendael intends to double the group size.
