Copenhagen Zoo - Ape Jungle

This is now a splendid indoor exhibit for chimps. Lots of climbing frames, romes, nets and hanging logs and soft, natural substrate.

That`s really an improvement - do you know if the chimps will get an outdoor enclosure too? As nice as the new indoor enclosure is, they need to go out.

Yes, it is the long-term plan that an outdoor enclosure will be built. However, I am not sure when or even where. There have been talk of moving them out of the Ape Jungle, but nothing is certain.

You must remember that all of the adult chimps are former laboratory chimps and that these are far more luxurious conditions than ever before. They have very probably never even been outside. I do agree that an outdoor enclosure is needed, but perhaps with these chimps it is not urgent.

Perhaps it should be added that the chimps also have constant access to two other fairly big rooms, though not as big or high as this one as well as some smaller space at the back - not visible to the visitors.
