An overview of the main outdoor enclosure for the Asian elephant bulls in Copenhagen Zoo, Denmark. This world-famous exhibit was designed by the brittish architect Norman Foster and opened on June 10th 2008. The whole complex has space for one female herd and two males.

This is the main outdoor enclosure for the bull elephants. The ground is covered in sand which is good for the elephants' joints. The ditch in front can be raised thus connecting the males' and females' enclosures. The size of this enclosure is 1000 sq meters or 0,25 acres.

I don't know why but I am sort of warming up to liking this enclosure. I simply focus on the fact that it is good for the elephants rather than a bit dissapointing for the visitors (more so for the females than the males).

I understand the good use of substrate and that but how is it good if it's only 0.25 acres?

Like I wrote it is not the males' enclosure that is becomming better in my eyes but the females' enclosure. The males have been unfortunately underprioritized here (as they always seem to do).

But I would just like to point out that it is not all about size but more importantly how the exhibit is structured and what care that the animals recieve! Even though I know that you already know that, Ash ;)

Yeah I feel that way :p
It just sounds tiny is all, but it appears better than what they had.
