Popped right in the middle of the zoo, a row of 14 square aviaries houses an impressive collection of large birds, with the main highlight being 10 of the 15 described crane species (Demoiselle and Eurasian cranes are housed elsewhere in the zoo, bringing that number up to 12. It used to be 13, but the black-necked crane seems to have left the collection). The cranes are not alone, species of hornbills, storks, ibises,... also complete the inhabitant list of this section. These are the species I saw at my visit:
Saddle-billed stork (Ephippiorhynchus senegalensis) and Hooded vulture (Necrosyrtes monachus)
Wattled crane (Bugeranus carunculatus)
Western black-crowned crane (Balearica pavonina pavonina) and Black-casqued hornbill (Ceratogymna atrata)
Saddle-billed stork (Ephippiorhynchus senegalensis), Painted stork (Mycteria leucocephala) and Madagascar sacred ibis (Threskiornis bernieri). Temminck's tragopan (Tragopan temminckii) is signed but was not seen.
