Yes, the latin name Bothrops alternatus refers to the pattern of its markings. This very poisonous herp is native to Brazil, uruguay and northern Argentina. May i add that to my great surprise i found that this small serpentarium in Mendoza had much more interesting south american species of snakes than the reptile house at the Buenos Aires zoo which had a more typical line up of pythons, boas and anaconda. The exhibits themselves were quite poor at Serpentario Mendoza, but the singular collection made up for that.
