@TeaLovingDave No, they told zoochatters were everything was, normal zoo visitors couldn't care less and wouldn't even know when they see names as "Gayal", among many others, at the map, with the drawing of a type of cattle, they at least have something to relate to...
So you reckon an uninformative map is better as long as it has pretty pictures? aka the Chester Zoo method.
Even if the average visitor might not know a particular species, giving the option to see where something is located is better than reducing an entire area to a single unlabelled drawing in my opinion. Moreover, the old Zoo Berlin map did have drawings for visitors to relate to, but provided a key as well for those who wanted further information.
The other issue is the fact that the new maps are illustrated at a pseudo-isometric view, which is much more confusing where finding a route is concerned as opposed to a top down map.
@TeaLovingDave I do not think this map is uninformative, it is far from perfect, but still better than what was there before for 99% of its users. The old berlin maps were rather chaotic and a pain to look at, this one is simplified (and made look more pretty) to an extent most people can use it without any problem. Making a good zoo map is just really tough and not each map can be of the level of the one from Prague.
