Danum Valley Field Centre map

Elephant Ridge was (I think) where there had been a Sumatran Rhino wallow when I was at Danum. Unfortunately the rhino had probably died by the time I got there, as the wallow was being overtaken by the jungle.

Without a guide they wouldn't let me cross the river. I spent most of my time on Main Trail East, but it is poorly maintained after a point and despite considerable effort I couldn't follow it all the way to the road.

When I was there (this was way back in 2009) nobody was allowed without a guide on the trail grid trail across the river either. But they let me go up the main track which runs through the middle of the grid, and because there was no-one to say otherwise once I was there, I just went on the grid trails anyway. The Elephant Ridge trail in particular was off-limits and very overgrown because nobody used it any more.
