The best type of rat for me. I'm having a problem with brown rats in my new greenhouse for some strange reason. I can't think why they are so interested in digging under the foundations. Not for much longer though............
Hopefully you guys are disposing of the dead rats in a way that nothing else will eat them and also get poisoned?
That's a major problem here in California where native predators like coyotes, bobcats, and hawks get secondarily poisoned from eating poisoned rodents.

I agree that can be a problem with many poisons, but it depends on the type of poison. The best we have is grain treated with Zinc Suphate, (pretty sure that is the name) Apparently the chemical reaction kills the animal when eaten and once the reaction has finished it is no longer dangerous if another animal eats the poisoned one.
The dead rats or end up in the toilet or they end up burned with the rest of the garbage. But the poison should cause vitamin K deficit and according to the internet this does not affect eventual predators, but still we try to avoid it. I do not know what the effect is on reptiles, as I have a Geckolepsis typica that is really fond of the grains...
