The Feline House should go down as soon as possible; if they do the same with their other cat species as they did with Lions in PR then I'm not worried. Otherwise I'm pleased with Denver, although I was not pleased to see how many ungulates had left to make room for the new Asia section. One of the biggest reasons why I went to Denver in the first place is that they were supposed to have one of America's greatest ungulate collections. It's not too bad though, but probably has been cut back a lot in recent years.
I always liked taking my time in the hoof stock section. This may sound strange but my favorite animal in that section was Watusi cattle. There so common but I guess it was because of the babies that kept popping out. I hope the feline building comes down soon too. They will make a asian temperate forest for the Tigers, Leopards, Lynx, and Pallas Cat after Asian Tropics. So I hope thats when we can say good by to it.
The Feline House opened in 1964 and anyone that visits the zoo is frequently appalled at how small the cat enclosures are. In fact, it gives Cleveland and other zoos a run for their money in terms of sheer decrepitude. The good news is that after Asian Tropics opens in 2012 the zoo will hopefully begin the long process of raising funds for Asian Temperate Forest and give many of the cats naturalistic, new habitats.
