If they do the gorilla talks again next summer, I imagine this is where they'll happen rather than further round near the railway line. Perhaps they'll use a catapult to lob the leeks over the moat to the island - it seems wider now to me.
Viewing-wise, Paignton's island just doesn't work as well as Bristol or London's- at both you can get closer to the animals on the other side of the moat with nothing obscuring the view- after many years of poor viewing Paignton seem to be slowly getting there in that respect. Trying for a 'natural' feel of peering at them in the distance through foliage is just a waste of time IMO. People want to see them as closeup as possible.
A good idea, it will allow people to see the gorillas when they are near the house and in that corner of the island - but without altering the feel of the rest of the enclosure. I agree with Gigit that it will also be a much better site for gorilla talks.
