@Wurm: this gorilla exhibit is still quite new (2004), and so how would you rate it? A fellow ZooChatter privately emailed me about a month ago to provide me with a full review of the zoo. He claimed that Sedgwick County is probably one of the top 15 zoos in the United States, with lots of above average exhibits. The one flaw was that he personally thought that everything was impressive, but that there wasn't an outstanding habitat that could be called the best of its kind.
@snowleopard: I'm not a primate person, and usually don't pay a whole lot of attention to their exhibits. It's a very nice exhibit and that's about all I can say. I would say that Sedgwick County is easily in the top 15 US zoos, and could easily be in a person's top 10 depending on what a person likes about zoos. It's a shockingly large zoo and large collection considering the size of Wichita. I would agree with your friend, it doesn't have that singular "oh my god that's amazing!!" exhibit. But it is chock full of very nice exhibits throughout. It's criminally unknown and unappreciated outside of Wichita.
