@birdsandbats The plant was collected in 1962 in Cameroon by botanists from Wageningen University and was moved from the university to the Bush in 1999 together with all Dracaena species kept at the university. It was already expected for some time that this plant was an undescribed species, but only when looking at the flowers (in 2013) the plant could indeed be called unique and described as a new species. The plant was officially described in 2018 and was named after the Bush, as well as after Just Bos, a former employee at the Wageningen University herbarium.
Burgers' Zoo is part of the Dutch organization for botanical gardens and maintains the national collections for Dracaena, Costus, Zingiberaceae (Ginger family), Ficus and Mangrove plants. The only other zoo in the Netherlands that is part of this group is Diergaarde Blijdorp where Bromeliads and Primula are the managed national collections.
