The indoor exhibit for pygmy hippopotamus inside the Equatorium in Duisburg Zoo, Germany. This is one of the best indoor exhibits I have seen for this species. It is quite spacious, light and has soft substrate many places. I would like to see a bigger pool though.
The Equatorium opened in 1962 and was built to house animals from the equatorial rainforests. However, today it is used mainly as a primate house. Most of the monkeys and apes have separate exhibits inside the house but various free-ranging animals also live among the visitors. The pygmy hippo house is a later extension to the Equatorium and opened in 2001.
