Reminiscent to some exhibits at L.A.'s old Griffith Park Zoo I remember seeing as a child, that closed in 1965. Remarkably, some of those old enclosures were preserved, and can still be seen. You could even get rather close to some of the big cats; the Lions especially come to mind.
