@drill D'you know, because it was a labelled 'zoo' animal I'd never actually looked at it to check!

I saw both in the wild as well so had looked up the 'tells' but never even questioned this one - this is actually great news if so as my wild Marsh Rabbit photo was shocking but the wild cottontail ones were much better, so I'd rather a nice image of a captive Marsh - thanks! :D
 
@Maguari It is similar in appearance to the eastern cottontail but is characterized by smaller ears, legs, and tail. Eastern Cottontail:

@drill - if the main characters are smaller ears, legs and tail, how could you tell from this photo where the latter two are invisible and the ears are pointing backwards?
 
@Chlidonias These ears are noticeably smaller than the larger ears of a cottontail, even in this picture. Also note that Marsh Rabbits are much darker in color than cottontails (compare the photo @drill added above with the @Maguari 's photo).
