Eastern Pygmy Marmoset - 17/09/2010

I believe this may be the first documented ZooChat sighting of the eastern pygmy marmoset (Cebuella pygmaea niveiventris) at Chester (currently holding 2.0).

Given how small they are and the large outdoor area, they're incredibly difficult to see.

To bluntly & rudely steal your award, I saw one of the Marmosets a few weeks back. To give you credit though, I saw it in the indoor area where it would be much easier to see. Infact I think the Geofrey's are the only species i've seen outside in this exhibit.

I know quite a few people who have seen them, although all indoors. The suggestion in my original message however, was that this is the first documented sighting, in other words, the first photo posted to ZooChat. :)

And a brilliant photo at that!

Well done!

Very nice shot and very well seen. I don't think I've spotted any of the mini-monkeys outside this year.

Thanks all. My mum has a really dodgy snap of one of the black-tailed marmosets in their outdoor area (shared with the pygmy) and before yesterday I'd seen a Geoffrey's, but only a fleeting glimpse on one occasion.

Both Eastern Pygmies and Black-taileds were out and about yesterday - two animals of each species. Shaping up to be a nice exhibit.

Both those species have been really slow to embrace the outdoor area but this is a good sign and it'll be a great exhibit for "proper" zoo visitors because spotting one is particularly rewarding.

Do we know how many of the black-tailed marmosets Chester holds? ISIS doesn't list them as having any.
