Egyptian fruit bat walk-through exhibit in the crypt underneath the abbey tower, 2020-09-03

@Mr Gharial It is certainly one of the weirdest zoo exhibits that I have seen, and even at Pairi Daiza it stands out as pretty unique (which is saying something for Pairi Daiza). That said, it is a good way to make use of this piece of old architecture for sure.

What the picture cannot convey, however, is that this crypt smells pretty bad (as one I'm sure could imagine) and that the bats sometimes fly somewhat disconcertingly close to visitors. In September I had one of the bats swoop right past me, after which I quickly continued on to the other parts of the crypt (treasure cave, mole rats and amphibian room).

I hope that, given the current uncertain situation, your visit will ahead without too many issues.

@KevinB We already postponed the trip a year last year. So I hope so too. I would fully be okay with getting hit in the face with a bat.

Because that will make for great puns

And also because it's a cool experience or whatever, but mainly the puns
