But where is the natural substrate? Is the indoor area all cement? Most modern zoos provide their elephants with sandy floor coverings in both the indoor and outdoor areas of an exhibit.
Most modern Zoos doing that ? I'm not sure about that. I've seen just one Zoo in the Usa with indoor sand floor for elephants, one of more than 50 Zoos I've visitetd there....
But Cologne's Indoor Elephant Exhibit is big enough, to keep a group of them yearround indoors, so the rocky outdoor exhibit could be used for other animals, wild goats, takin, monkeys or pinnipeds and penguins for example.
