Elephants of Asia August 2013

The elephant lake area of the elephant exhibit is becoming quite lush with vegetation. The bull Asian elephant is on the left for scale.

I'm liking how lush the exhibit is looking, but it seems they have cut down the Eucalyptus tree that was inside the exhibit. That tree was huge and provided some shade, but it did look kind of beaten by the elephants on my last visit to the zoo.

Has anyone ever seen any one of the trio take advantage of either of their beautiful pools? I haven't. And with our current heat, they would seem to look extremely inviting.

I have also seen the three elephants use all the water features. In fact, I was at the zoo when Billy was first allowed into this yard and he ran and played in the pool for quite some time.

I'll keep watching and waiting to see a plunge into deep water. And it's not like I haven't visited in all types of weather on numerous occasions.
