Emperor Tamarin outdoor tree enclosure

This enclosure looks interesting. I went a few months a go just before it was finished. Ho effective is it?

Not sure they still haven't used!I actually think this is a waste of money as it only expands the area for one species in the house!

Surely that's a good thing. Any extra space (even for one individual) is a bonus. And the cost would be quite minimal seeing as it's a few ropes in some established trees. Certainly cheaper than demolishing the house and rebuilding exhibits for all of the species present.

I feel sure these changes are being made mainly for the visitors' benefit, to allow them to see something different- e.g. 'Tamarins in Trees'. The same goes for the De Brazzas, its only one 'open-air' monkey enclosure out of very many. I am not knocking these changes here, but I do believe that is their main purpose.

I hope there's always a keeper watching the outdoors in case a Tamarin falls onto the grass and can't get back up the tree!

Well when they fall out of a tree in the wild, they find there own way back up,without the need for a keeper on hand to help them!

I agree 100% with you,all these changes are for the visitors and not for the animals, give the visitors something nice and shiny and new to look at,so they don't look so hard at the cracks else where!

Is that not plastic sheeting wrapped around the trees preventing them from doing so?
Correct me if I am wrong but primates can leap and jump, and I know I have seen Tamarins clear greater distance than the plastic on the trees,so I for one will not be worrying about a Tamarin falling out of the tree, and not been able to get back!
