There was a sign in front of this exhibit saying we will be renovating these bear habitats in the near future to provide more naturalistic environments.We currently have black bears in the last bear den, but will not be adding other bears until after the renovation.
Fact about the exhibit: This exhibit was constructed in 1937. At one time this exhibit had 5 Polar Bears in it. (I would love to know the history bout the PGH Zoo and what animals they had 20-30 years ago?)
I bet this is what Top of the World is still in the development phases. I am wondering now that there is a sign up if they are going to renovate the exhibits either for 2013 or 2014. The might do several at a time to allow Stanly and Susan to stay in the complex at least during part of the construction.

We were unaware of Pittsburgh posting a sign making known their intentions to renovate these grottos in our recent on the Top of the World thread.However still feel its a terrible idea to do so.Tear them down and build a top notch exhibit.
@jusko88 We also have the history book that Snowleopard has posted for you its a great read and one of the best zoo history books in our collection you should be able to purchase it at the zoos gift shop.
