enclosure for Stump-Tailed Macaques (Macaca arctoides)

This is an example of the high standard of enclosure at Taiping Zoo. Most of the time in Asia (and elsewhere) macaques get horrible cages. Here at Taiping they get a huge cage. There's not as much climbing structure as I would like, but Stump-tailed Macaques are largely terrestrial anyway.

The cage is supposed to be a shared exhibit with Small-clawed Otters (Amblonyx cinereus) but these were not present on my visit, although the sign for them was there. It isn't really a mix I would make - I don't trust macaques!
